Wow – I’ve been watching the lunar eclipse tonight. It is really cloudy here but there is enough wind that the clouds blow by pretty fast. So if you sit on the deck you can see the moon and the planet Saturn and the star Regulus.
Regulus is the brightest star in the Leo constellation. I learned about the different constellations in the 6th grade and have been to several planetariums.
I remember making a large board with the shapes of four of the constellations as a science project. I took a 4′ x 8′ sheet of plywood and spray painted it dark blue, then my dad helped me drill the holes in the right places and I used white Christmas lights stuck through the holes from the back of the board to make the stars. It was a really cool demonstration when the teacher turned out the classroom lights and I plugged in the Christmas lights to show the class.
I love the shows about the stars and planets. This is a magical night for me!
