Back in the 1980s there was a lot of uproar in the educational community about observing holidays. A lot of the do-gooders felt that it was unfair to force the school children to participate in holiday traditions that were based on what might be conflicting religious beliefs. So they banned the celebration of any holidays in the classroom.
I feel like they have done our children a huge disservice. Celebrating holidays is part of the American culture and does not have to be forcing one religion onto another. It can just be for fun and amusement.
My favorite holiday for decorating the house and yard is actually Halloween. I love all the fun things you can do with props and special effects. It is all for the enjoyment of children and others who share my enthusiasm for haunted houses and spooky things.
