Satellite Broadband

I played a spades game with a guy who lives in Utah. We were chatting and he told me that he was on a dial up connection, which makes the game go slow and some people fuss about that, but that he had no choice because where he lives he can’t get cable or DSL for internet. The rest of us were shocked. It was like, what? This is 2008 – in America! And no cable internet to your town? But it turns out that there are a lot of places where you cannot get cable or DSL.

If you live in areas not serviced by DSL or cable for internet access, you do have a source for a broadband connection. You can get satellite internet. Even in the melon capital of the world, Green River, Utah.

Internet for RV’ers

I’m not adverse to buying a camper or RV or some sort. Especially if I find a man who like water sports and the mountains as much as I do. I always wondered how I would access the internet if I took the RV out for a week or two . . . or three . . . or four.

From reading Mimi and Jonna’s blog, I see that they use a satellite connection from HughesNet. I’ve read several posts where they talk about setting up their satellite dish and how they can have access to the internet in even the most remote places wherever they travel. That settles that question, and I’m bookmarking the Hughesnet site so when I buy my RV I will know where to look for internet access on the road.

Of course, there are still communities in the U.S. that don’t have broadband cable access and don’t have DSL. In fact, my own neighborhood still does not have DSL and I am right downtown! This satellite access would be a good solution for people here that are stuck with dial up or can’t get cable, too.

Do you have alot of photos on your computer or stored on your memery card or just have alot of photos laying around? I think we all have atleast one of these things going on with our pictures and there are several great places that you can store and share your photos online for free. The first and is also my favorite is Flickr, which is also owned by Yahoo, it allows you to tag your photos among alot other things. The next is Photo Bucket which is where 41 million people are search, uploading and sharing photos. They have over 2 Billion photos stored online for everyone to view. Do you know of any other great photo sharing places online if so leave them in the comments so everyone else can see them.

Need Mail?

Need an email accout and do not own a domain or worst yet own a domain and you still do not have a email account, well do not worry I have a couple places you should go and check out for a free email account. All of these are easy to use and depending on what you use the most for your search would be the nest to use for email but should you need multiple accounts then sign up for all of them but becareful it can be hard to remember so many paswords and usernames.

From Googles Web Site

“You spend your life dealing with information. A lot of it is academic, a lot more is personal, it all matters, and you can probably use better tools for handling it effectively. On this page, we’d like to introduce you to a few of them.”

From me

I use this service and was so amazed by its ease of use I passed it around to my friends and now we have a great network of information we can access easily online from any device including my cell phone has already helped us girls out over 10 times the last time was when my friend Ashley locked herself out of her car then used her phone to text my Google Talk which I then forwarded to Margrets Gmail which if yo uknow her is the only way to reach her, who then brought her an extra set, just one of many ways Google helped out this week. If your in college then atleast try this free service out to see if it may be righ for you.
