There are rumors going around that Alltell Wireless is for sale and is already in talks with several of it’s rivals. And although I could not track down any offical statement from any of it’s rivals the word on the street is Alltell is for sale.
“Although Alltel Wireless is only the nation’s fifth-largest mobile phone company when you consider the number of subscribers, they have done an excellent job catering to rural and low-population areas that are sometimes snubbed by the bigger names. Maybe that’s not enough. Alltel Wireless is apparently looking for a buyer and they have already had discussions with “all its larger rivals.”
As Alltel is CDMA-based, it would make the most sense for Alltel to team up with Sprint or Verizon, though a partnership, merger, or outright purchase is not out of the cards for T-Mobile or the former Cingular (AT&T) either. One of the major speed bumps to a potential deal, however, is that Alltel is worth too much: “the mobile carrier is valued at almost $22 billion, a number sure to rise if takeover talk persists.”
If Sprint-Nextel or Verizon Communications were to purchase Alltel, they would gain the country’s largest wireless network based on geographical footprint. This is a huge asset, naturally, and one that is worth considering.”
For everyone on the Verizon network like me, you can now start to see television over your phone over the new Vcast Mobile TV service offered by Verizon Wireless. Having had a couple of days to check it out on my new Razor I have to say that so far I am pretty impressed with what I see and hear from my new cell phone television. One of the major problems I have had so far is using the battery life on my cell phone up, to watch television instead of making calls.
Wordpress Bug HuntÂ
On March 7, 2007 at 01:00:00 UTC (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=3&day=7&year=2007&hour=1&min=0&sec=0&p1=0,), the latest WordPress Bug Hunt will commence. The fun starts when you show up, so please be prompt
The goal of a Bug Hunt is to find, confirm, and fix bugs, then submit and test patches for those bugs. A WordPress Bug Hunt normally commences with a session on the #wordpress-bugs (irc://irc.freenode.net/wordpress-bugs) IRC channel on irc.freenode.net. There are always numerous bug hunting opportunities available for Bug Hunters. PHP coding experience is not necessary — all participants are welcome to join!
Successful bug hunting means familiarizing yourself with the WordPress Bug Database (http://trac.wordpress.org/). You also need the latest version (http://wordpress.org/download/svn/) installed and ready to go. Please do not use your main, live blog for participation in the Bug Hunt — things can and will break as we resolve bugs!
Having as many participants as possible during WordPress Bug Hunts greatly enhances the ongoing development of the beta releases and provides WordPress users with a more stable product! Good Luck on your Bug Hunting and thanks for joining in!”
Good luck on the hunt I can not make it to this years event but wish you all the best just the same. Maybe someone will see this blog post and make it to the hunt I hope. Would be nice to get funding from one of the CEO’s of a big technology company to help fund open source projects like Wordpress
My friend and long time web developer is taking her stores mobile. She owns and runs about twenty online stores that sell everything from novelties to dvds and other iteams more eccentric for adults. She also wants to open up several more stores around the same themes but with more focus on one type of product instead of a general store and she asked for me help in creating this new type of store so I agreed to give her a hand to bring her stores onto mobile devices accross the globe. In my opinon this will take up quite a bit of my spare time over the next couple of weeks and probably will not get much blogging done but who knows I may just use this as a chance to blog about some of the plans and bugs we run into while creating this next generation of sites.
There is much talk around the globe about the benefits of online media and one of them being that we will not have to cut down so many tress and have to make so many inks and dies for the paper. This woman hopes that one day thi sis true. Would be cool if you could download all the coupons to a card and anytime you went to the store you could swipe the card and get discount available. The amount of time saved from clipping and remebering what to buy would be priceless. I think that dirty magazines will always be around but if everyone would just get there news online instead of having it delivered we would save millions of trees each day. I think if companies like the Wall Street Journal gave out laptops that downloaded the news instantly and every minute to a subscriber it would make more sense then to send printed informaition daily.
