Diamonds as currency

Was thinking about the best place to buy diamonds in todays world. I know it is not from the local jewelry store at the shopping mall, but my guess is probably somewhere online, since you can buy diamonds from stores located everywhere in the world instead of relying on a place down the street.I heard Antwerp was a geat place to buy and sell diamonds and that milions of dollars worth of diamonds get sold there everyday with just a handshake and a promise. When I looked around online I was able to find many places selling diamonds but most were either an affiliate of another company or did not have a website that did not look good enough that I would trust sending several thousand dollars to. What got me to buy from the diaonds store I bought from i choose them becasue they were BBB certified and they were apart of teh Google Check Out program and were rated very highly by other shoppers who had used thier services in the past. The one thing I like about diamonds as currency is no matter what land you are in diamonds are always worth something and they are small and light and can be easily carried and conceled as compared to lugging around thousands of pounds of gold bars.

cell phone ads maybe

I remember older stories where ads for cell phones had been so shunned by customers and the competition for cell phone users is so fierce, that the many attempts at using cell phone records for selling customer info or advertisements coming through via text messages or as interruptions on the screen for mobile applications were always thrown out of consumer demands. Today there is more news circulating about how much money could be earned, numbers in the range of $5 billion a year and such.

With that kind of money on the table it doesn’t surprise me that some cell phone companies are considering new ways to lure people into accepting online ads such as cheaper phone rates or discounts for types of phones or service. Certainly there will always be a market for cheaper phone service and perhaps many people would accept ads given a much lower bill, but I imagine there will become a stereo type with this type of service much like you have with Cricket phones and the quality that people sometimes complain about, I suppose there will be more nicknames to the slower service that would be forced upon end users who are stuck with the cheaper ad driven phones.

Of course there will always be some people trying to find shady ways to spill ads into already existing services, in fact just tonight I got a few text messages from a porn / sex chat spammer who has sending texts to my yahoo messenger account. At the time my messenger was set to away from my desk / I’m mobile so the porn spam was sent to my phone, Which made me pay the 10 cents for the text message and slowing down my life, costing me in several ways that were not necessarily promoted by the cell phone company itself.

I am still unsure about how many cellphone records have been released / bought or sold and what the morals and implications of these truly are, but there is BS there too. We all assumed our cell phone numbers were off limits to marketers, but it seems that was just a false mirage they wanted us to believe.

Tons of free blog services

Recently many friends have been sending me invited to thier new blogs and I have been blown away by the amount of free blog places that have become available for everyone to use. Of course you have the blogs that some people use on Myspace, then there are the places that my geekier friends tend to use like live journal or typepad. Some of friends astonish me when they tell me that they have set up a blog at a place like blogger (I had thought this kind of blogging was far out of reach for the majority of my friends who have issues using sites like myspace) .

Well very cool, ther are more and more people using lots of blogging options. I recently read somehwere that wordpress.com was now hosting more than 1 million free blogs! I love the wordpress format, and was tickled pink when I got a link from a friend who has actually taken the time to set up a free wordpress adult blog recently. I guess when it comes to posting pictures of your ex girlfriend (Kelsey Michaels) ordinary people will decide to learn new software and get on the blogging bandwagon to do it!

Funny. Cool? Gross? I don’t know, I can only hope that once Bob get’s his roclks off with the Kelsey posts that he will start a blog one day that focuses on more enlightening subjects like his Tai Chi practice or something. ‘Till then it is very cool to see so many people adapting to new ways of sharing info with the world, let there be more free blogs!

Design for life changes

I read a post from a fellow blogger, Stephanie talking about how she considers life changes a design issue and at first I did not understand, but I took a few minutes and thought about how I would consider life changes a design issue and how it would be nice if we could just change the design of our home or work or schedule as we needed to add things to our life similar to how people change their blog themes when they add content.

Wouldn’t it be great if like in the sims game you could just magically add a room for a new baby much like you add a content container for things like flicker asides? Then I considered that looking at the world as a design issue, how I can try to plan for future events by considering what design I would need for the home, and work, etc. Strange thought, but a worth consideration I believe.

no more cingular service reps

I look forward to the transition of At&t merging with buying out Cingular, I am hoping that we can get 24 customer support instead of the 9 -5 ish kind of waiting that I have had to deal with as a previous cingular customer. I have yet to need to call upon the service people since the buyout has gone through. So far I have not really seen any changes with cell phone reception or drop calls, but I have to wonder what the future holds.

Will the big corporate buyout ge us bette customer service or more red tape and headaches?
