Cleaning Out My Closet

It rained all weekend so I took on the project of cleaning out my closets.  I didn’t realize how many years it’s been since I dove into them.  There were some odd items of clothing tucked in the back corners that I’d literally forgotten all about.

First, I looked at the sizes, because let’s face it, I’m never going to be able to wear some sizes I wore previously.  And if I did ever get down to a smaller size, I would want to celebrate with new clothes, anyway.  (That ain’t happening, so moving on!)  Then I looked at each article and asked myself, ” Am I ever going anywhere that I will want to wear this again?”  Surprisingly, the answer was no, a lot.  I think I’ve held onto so many things simply because I was too lazy to go through them.

I’ve got everything in plastic bags now, and a few household items packed in boxes, and I’m going to call Purple Heart right now before I procrastinate.  Oh good, they can come pick this stuff up on Thursday.  I just need to leave it out in my yard or porch early in the morning.  I like to donate to Purple Heart – they are a much more worthy charity than Good Will or the Salvation Army. Trust me on this – I checked them all out before deciding which one to call.

Scrubs for My Costume This Year

October means Halloween and Halloween means I need a costume. We always have a Halloween party at work and employees are supposed to not only wear a costume and makeup, but we are supposed to decorate our offices or cubicles and then everyone votes on the best decorations and the best costumes for both prizes and bragging rights.

Last year I decided to wear blue scrubs, latex gloves, and painted fake blood down my shirt and running down my arms. My props were a rubber Frankenstein doll laid out on an operating table, some surgical instruments and a strobe light. I was, of course, Dr. Frankenstein. It got a lot of laughs and I won second place for the office decor.

My idea for this year is to get another pair of cheap hospital scrubs and do something similar but different. I am going to get a blonde wig to wear under the surgical cap and a large rubber fake brain. Then I’m going to use light grey and black makeup to make me look like a zombie. I’m going to walk around like a zombie and offer people my brain, telling them that since I’m a blonde now that I don’t need it. LOL

I Love Roses

In high school, I was able to find a part time job after school at a local florist shop. I loved that job and still love flowers – very easy way to score big brownie points with me.

In fact, I’ve worked for several different florists for short periods of time over the years. At the major holidays they are usually glad to have experienced help and I enjoy the hub bub, helping out, and being around the flowers and plants.

Pearls

Ever notice how the Queen always seems to wearing a strand of pearls with every outfit when she goes out in public? Her Pearls and her hats are her trademark. I think most women of my generation have at least one good strand of pearls. I inherited mine from my grandmother and I love them dearly.

I would love to have another pearl necklace, though. I’ve had my eye on some new designs, like the stylish two tone designs. I don’t know if the black and white is supposed to be symbolic of anything, like a lifestyle choice, so I had better check on that before I make a stupid mistake. But if this trip goes well I hope to have at least one afternoon of shopping and I would love to take home a new pearl necklace as my souvenir from London. But if I don’t find any bargains on this trip, I know I can order quality pearls from the Pearl Outlet website.

Selena will have her pearls!

Landscaping Project

We only have a couple more weeks of winter, according to the groundhog. I’m so ready for the sunny days of spring and color coming back to the yards. Everything has been grey and brown for months, and I need to see some pastels soon!

I want to have more plants this year, but since I am limited to the deck they will have to be in containers. I plan to have both flowers and vegetables sprouting from clay pots by April 15th. For now, at least I can brighten up everything with some LED lights. Ever since I saw the way the owners of the B&B in Tampa put LED lights around the patio and in the trees of their backyard, I’ve wanted to replicate that effect here at home.

I found a really cool website that is more like a blog than a traditional website, and it gives you a bunch of helpful information about LED landscape lighting lamps and all the new developments in the lighting industry that I never knew until I read about it here.

The articles are short and easy to read, and I learned a lot by just scanning through the first page of and also reading their forum.

For instance, did you kow that LED lights are being used in stop lights in some cities, like Knoxville? LED lights are more energy efficient and easier to see than traditional traffic lights.

Forget about the old halogen lights – you will want to switch to the new LED lights because they not only look better but they are more efficient, last longer and cost less to operate and maintain. I bet you’ve noticed some people in your own neighborhood who have installed LED landscaping lights and you can really tell the difference, can’t you?

And, there was an episode on “This Old House” that shows how easy it is to install LED lights in your yard with a step-by-step guide. The website has a link to that if you want to watch it or read the guide. I love that show – it has given me lots of good ideas over the years and he always give me the confidence I need to take on a new project.

Can’t wait for Lizard Lighting to launch their online catalogue of lighting this spring so I can buy what I want from them!
