Using Up the Fresh Foods

Since I’ll be gone for 10 on the business trip, I need to use up all the fresh food in the refrigerator and clean out everything so it doesn’t spoil.

I have an odd assortment of food on hand and would like some inspiration on what to do with it all. I have a site bookmarked for recipes and menus, called and I’ve used it a couple times already. What I like most about this site is that the recipes submitted and shared are by real people, not fancy chefs who have a staff of 6 to fix everything for them and jump to their every command.

I’m going to send in a couple of my favorite recipes and have them do a free nutritional analysis on the recipes for me. That will be helpful as I try to keep track of the carbs and fat in my diet over the next couple of months. After all, beach weather is just 6 weeks away!

Real Art

As much as I love photographs I don’t seem to take many photos lately. I used to carry a camera with me everywhere, especially when my kids were young and we were always going fun places. I have a huge collection of photos that I need to organize and I would love to make a few special scrapbooks but I just haven’t felt creative until now. When I get home I want to make that project a priority for the next couple of weekends.

I found a site called Photofiddle that works with photographs and turns them into art using different techniques, like oil painting and low detail watercolor. The trick is having a good photograph that was put together well or composed to base the artwork on. I think composition is half the battle with having a good photograph, and I’ve always paid attention to that. I think I have several really good candidates for this art conversion.

I was thinking that I’d like to find a few of my photographs from the old days and make them into a watercolor type painting and give them to my mother as mothers day gifts. There are a couple I would like to take from the montage photoframe I have in my office and make them into art for my own home. Now that I have the creative juices flowing again I can’t wait to see how some of them turn out!

Kicking Back Tonight

It is sure nice to be home. I got unpacked and all the laundry done and fixed a great dinner – made extra ziti so I could freeze some and have it again next week.

Spent a couple hours surfing the internet and answering emails. I read a few blogs and clicked on some links just to see where they went. Somehow I ended up on a coupon blog website with free coupons. There were some great deals on there! They evidently post deals every day, so you should bookmark the page and check it each day if you are serious about couponing and serious about saving money like I am!

Don’t Have A Blog?

Dont have a blog yet and do not have any money to buy a domain name and more money to have it hosted? Well do not worry there are plenty of places that will let you keep a blog online for free. The first and the best in my opinion is Blogger which is run by the great folks over at Google. If Blogger does not do it for you then try out WordPress. The third place is MySpace which has a lot of other features including a blog. So if you do not have one blog go get yourself one and have fun sharing your thoughts and ideas online with the World.

Tracking Your Time

From my days of employment at a rather large, well known and successful law firm, I can tell you how important good time billing software is to running a successful business. At the firm, it was all about billable hours. The lawyers all had to meet weekly minimums of hours. Every hour of a workday had to be charged to a client, whether they were on the telephone, face to face meetings, or in court.

Most of my other jobs did not try to attribute my time to particular clients or projects except for when I worked at the computer company. I was a multi-department manager supporting multiple government and military projects, so my time had to be allocated to specific projects. It was challenging to keep track of what I did throughout the day, but I managed.

The most interesting time-sheet I had to use was at the Franchose company headquarters. They had a complete online system that tracked your time, your vacation, and also all your expenses. I loved that program! I could access it from my desk or from my laptop while traveling by logging in via internet.

It was super easy to use and I loved getting my expenses reimbursed so quickly. Often, my expense reimbursement check was waiting for me at my desk by the time I returned from a convention or trade show. That was helpful and very much appreciated.

“And this is Igor…he’s responsible for making sure people put their billable hours in.”
